The Experiments of Dr. Vermin

Author-illustrato Egan’s Rocky Horror picture book is an amusing homage to the movies of the 1930′s. This suspenseful effort is nail-bitingly good fun for young readers and their parents.

Young children will enjoy the muted artwork as much as they will appreciate this super silly, slightly scary story.

Egan poses stubby-limbed human and animal figures with small but expressive facial features that reflect the tongue-in-cheek tone…Sheldon [the main character] learns that inner stuff is much more important than the outer form or size.

In this wry sendup of horror cliches, an affable pig has car trouble in wolf country one dark and stormy Halloween… Egan (A Mile from Ellington Station) sets a satiric tone with nuanced understatement and his earthy palette exudes firelit warmth.
